Beside filling decay, we also use composite fillings for less invasive cosmetic procedures. We can use composite fillings to cover discolored teeth, repair chipped teeth or cover gum recession.
Veneers
Veneers are ultra-thin enamel like material that can improve the color, shape, or size of a tooth. They are bonded onto the front surfaces of teeth to improve appearance. Veneers can be made from either porcelain or resin.
Veneers can fix:
Chipped teeth
Irregular shaped teeth
Gaps between teeth
Discolored teeth
Worn down teeth
What is the process?
The process starts by having a consultation with Dr. Baker and taking photos and models of your teeth. These will be used to design your new smile with the changes you wish to see. This new design will be used to make your temporary veneers look like your new smile. This serves as a prototype to “test drive” your new smile and allows us to make any changes before processing the final porcelain veneers.
Do you have to grind my teeth down to nubs?
With the latest technology, Dr. Baker can complete veneers with little to no prep of the tooth. Dr. Baker’s goal is to save as much natural tooth as possible while still having a long-lasting restoration. If you have fillings in your front teeth this may require more aggressive preparation of your teeth so that the veneers end on natural tooth structure.
How long will my veneers last?
If properly taken care of, veneers can last a very long time. Common reasons for replacement are recession of gumline with age and patient’s wishing to change the color of their teeth. Just like any other tooth in your mouth, periodically a veneer may need to be replaced if there is a chip or decay.
Do I still have to brush my veneers?
Yes! Just like your teeth, you only must brush the ones you want to keep! You invested a lot of time and money in your smile, you better take care of it! Brushing and flossing will allow veneers to remain healthy for a very long time, if not your whole life.
