Whitening
Whitening your teeth is a simple, non-invasive procedure. Tooth whitening will help brighten your smile. Tooth whitening is like tanning, everyone will respond differently to it. Some people will notice a big difference right away, while others may take way longer to whiten.
How do I whiten my teeth?
We use Opalescence take home whitening. Generally, we recommend trying our Opalescence Go trays that require no impressions. Opalescence Go is a disposable whitening kit, like bleaching strips, but way more effective. Whitening strips are acidic which can cause pits to form in your enamel, damaging your teeth.
Alternatively, we can make custom trays by taking impressions of your teeth. You apply whitening gel into these trays. These trays can be reused by buying more whitening gel.
Do you do chairside whitening in one appointment?
We generally do not do chairside whitening as it is not as effective as the take home options. This is due to the short duration of treatment. Chairside whitening will dehydrate the teeth creating the illusion that they are very white after treatment. Similarly, blue light whitening products do the same thing. Once the teeth rehydrate, they will be the same color as before.
Will Teeth Whitening Make My Teeth Sensitive?
Historically, whitening has been known to cause sensitivity. If you have sensitive teeth now, then whitening will likely cause an increase in sensitivity. Luckily, our Opalescence products by Ultradent are cutting edge and contain desensitizing agents including potassium nitrate and fluoride to help lessen the amount of sensitivity after whitening unlike other products sold outside of a dental office. You can still whiten your teeth if you have sensitive teeth, just space out whitening treatments more and use a sensitivity toothpaste.
